Privacy Policy — Needle: True North Compass
Effective date: 6 October 2026 Last updated: 6 October 2026
Needle ("the app") is developed and published by Bloomix Labs ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains how the app handles information.
The short version: Needle collects nothing and sends nothing. The app has no network access at all. It has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no trackers. The only permission it ever asks for is optional, and what it reads never leaves your device.
1. Information We Collect
We collect nothing.
We operate no servers for this app and receive no information from it. We have no way to identify you and hold no record that you use Needle. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers or contact details
- Location data (see Section 2 — location stays on your device)
- Contacts, calendar entries, photos, files or media
- Device identifiers, advertising IDs or IP addresses
- Usage analytics, behavioural data, crash reports or diagnostics
- Payment or financial information (see Section 5)
2. Location
Needle can show true north as well as magnetic north. The difference between the two, called magnetic declination, depends on where on Earth you are, so the app needs a rough idea of your position to calculate it.
The permission is optional. Decline it and the app works normally, showing magnetic north.
How location is handled:
- Needle requests coarse (approximate) location only. It never asks for precise or GPS-level location.
- It is read from your device's last known position, once, to compute the declination correction. The app does not track you, does not watch your movement, and requests no background location.
- The calculation happens entirely on your device, using a magnetic model built into the app. Nothing is looked up online, because the app cannot go online.
- Your position is never transmitted — not to us, not to anyone. It is used in the moment and not stored.
You can grant, refuse or revoke the permission at any time in Settings → Apps → Needle → Permissions, and "Only this time" works if your device offers it.
Needle also reads your device's magnetometer, accelerometer and rotation-vector sensors to know which way it is pointing and how it is tilted. These require no permission, are read only while the app is open, and are never stored or transmitted.
3. No Network Access
Needle does not declare the INTERNET permission. The app is technically incapable of making a network connection, which means no information can leave it — by us or by anyone else. Everything it does, it does on your device.
4. Data Stored on Your Device
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your chosen dial face (FIELD or NIGHT STEEL) | So the app opens the way you left it | Your device's private app storage |
| Damping, haptics and other caseback settings | So the instrument behaves as you tuned it | Your device's private app storage |
That is everything. There is no history, no log of headings, no stored location and no crash file. None of it is accessible to us.
To delete it: Settings → Apps → Needle → Storage → Clear data, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes everything permanently.
Needle sets android:allowBackup="false", so even these settings are never copied into Google Drive backups or transferred to a new device. Nothing about the app leaves your phone.
5. Buying the App
Needle is a paid app. The purchase happens in the Google Play Store, before the app is installed — it is a transaction between you and Google, governed by the Google Play Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.
We never see or handle your payment details. We do not receive your card number, billing address, email address or name. Google reports aggregate sales figures to us, which do not identify individual buyers.
The app itself contains no billing or purchase code, which is part of why it needs no network access.
6. Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Approximate location (optional) | Read once, on your device, to calculate true north. Decline it and the app shows magnetic north instead. |
That is the complete list. Needle requests no internet access, no storage, no contacts, no camera, no microphone and no identifiers.
7. Third-Party Services
Needle contains no third-party SDKs. No advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting, no social or login providers, no trackers. Because no third-party code runs inside the app, and because the app cannot reach the network, no third party receives any information about you through it.
Google Play distributes the app and processes its purchase, as described in Section 5, and may collect information relating to downloads and installs independently of the app.
8. Sharing and Sale
We do not share, sell, rent, trade or disclose any user data. We have none to share.
9. Retention and Deletion
We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. There is no account to close and no server-side record to erase. Settings on your device are kept until you remove them, as described in Section 4.
10. Children's Privacy
Needle is suitable for users of all ages. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children, transmits nothing, and contains no advertising.
11. Security
Needle holds no account and stores nothing sensitive. Your settings sit in Android's private per-app storage, protected by the operating system and by your device's own encryption and lock screen. Since nothing is transmitted and nothing is stored on a server, there is no remote system that could be breached.
12. Your Rights
Privacy laws including the GDPR (EU/EEA/UK), the CCPA/CPRA (California) and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act give you rights over your personal data — access, correction, deletion, portability and objection to processing.
We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing on our side to act on, and we do not sell or share personal information. The location permission and the data on your device are under your own control, as described above. For anything Google holds in relation to your purchase, those rights are exercised through Google.
13. Changes to This Policy
If a future version of Needle changes how information is handled, we will update this policy before that version is released, revise the "Last updated" date above and describe the change here. Continued use of the app after an update indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
